How does commission work?
Foodora and Wolt take a percentage of order value, usually 25–35%. Commission covers the platform, marketing and in some cases delivery. The restaurant covers food cost, packing and in many contracts the packaging too.
Example: SEK 200 order
Gross from guest SEK 200. Commission 30% (SEK 60). Left to restaurant SEK 140 — minus food cost (SEK 60), packaging (SEK 8), labour (SEK 15). Contribution: about SEK 57 per order. Same order via your own channel: SEK 194 after 3% payment fee, contribution about SEK 111.
Marketplace vs. own channel
Marketplaces drive volume and discovery. Your own channel preserves margin and customer data. Most profitable restaurants run a hybrid: discover the customer on Foodora, then steer the channel toward your own domain via QR, SMS and newsletter.
Three-step strategy
1) Be on a marketplace for visibility. 2) Build your own online channel with a 5% discount vs. ordinary price. 3) Track repeat-customer share and shift them to your own channel. Over 12 months, 30–50% of volume typically shifts.
