Short explanation
KDS is a touch screen in the kitchen showing incoming orders in real time. Every order has a timestamp, priority and status. When the dish is ready the chef taps the screen and the system notifies the front of house.
Benefits of KDS over paper tickets
- No lost orders. Everything is on screen until someone marks it done.
- Faster lead times. Alerts on orders exceeding the time limit.
- Fewer mistakes. The chef sees exactly what the guest tapped, including modifiers.
- Better data on times for analysis (average per dish, peak patterns).
- Station split. Cold, hot and bar each get a screen with the right items.
When does KDS pay off?
As soon as you have more than 50 orders a day, multiple stations or online ordering. Big wins during lunch and Friday rush, and for restaurants combining dine-in, takeaway and delivery.
